At WWDC 2026, Apple officially introduced Siri AI, transforming its long-running digital assistant into a fully AI-powered companion capable of understanding context, performing multi-step tasks, and working across the entire Apple ecosystem.
The announcement marks Apple’s most ambitious AI move yet. Rather than building a standalone chatbot, Apple is embedding intelligence directly into the iPhone, Mac, iPad, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro, creating an assistant that can understand your digital life and help get things done.
Apple describes Siri AI as a “profoundly more capable and conversational assistant” that combines broad world knowledge, personal context understanding, onscreen awareness, and powerful reasoning capabilities while maintaining the company’s privacy-first approach.
The result is a complete reimagining of Siri and a clear signal that Apple is ready to compete in the next generation of AI-powered computing.
An Entirely New Siri
Apple openly acknowledged that users have often expected more from Siri, and Siri AI is designed to address those expectations by offering natural conversations, detailed responses, and the ability to maintain context across multiple requests.
Unlike previous versions, Siri AI can search through messages, emails, photos, notes, and other personal information to help users find exactly what they need. Users can ask Siri to locate a restaurant recommendation mentioned months ago in a text conversation, retrieve a hotel confirmation from an old email, or surface photos from a recent family trip. Siri can also access information from third-party applications when developers integrate with Apple’s Spotlight framework.
Personal Context Understanding
One of Siri AI’s most significant upgrades is its ability to understand personal context. Rather than acting as a standalone chatbot, Siri AI can connect information across a user’s digital life.
It can pull information from Messages, Mail, Photos, Calendar, Notes, and supported third-party applications to provide answers that are relevant to the individual user.

Systemwide Actions Across Apps

Using its new onscreen awareness capabilities, Siri can understand what users are currently viewing and respond appropriately. For example, if a user receives a message about a potluck dinner, Siri can suggest recipes, help choose what to bring, and save the information directly into Notes. Broad World Knowledge and Real-Time Information
For the first time, Siri AI combines personal context with broad world knowledge. The assistant can retrieve current information from the web and answer questions on virtually any topic.
Users can ask about upcoming events, travel information, scientific topics, weather, entertainment, or local recommendations while continuing the conversation naturally through follow-up questions.
Apple’s goal appears to be combining the capabilities of modern AI chatbots with the deep personal integration available only through the Apple ecosystem.
Siri Across the Entire Apple Ecosystem
Siri AI is no longer limited to voice interactions on the iPhone. Apple is embedding the assistant throughout its product lineup to create a consistent AI experience across devices.
On iPhone, users can activate Siri through voice, the side button, or by swiping down from the Dynamic Island. On Mac and iPad, Siri AI is integrated directly into Spotlight and system context menus, allowing users to ask questions about files, images, and content directly from anywhere in the operating system. On Apple Vision Pro, Siri AI receives a fully spatial interface that users can place anywhere in their environment. Apple Watch users can start conversations directly from their wrist, while Smart Stack suggestions can help continue conversations across devices.
A New Architecture Built Around Privacy
Perhaps the most important part of Apple’s announcement is what sits underneath Siri AI. The assistant is powered by Apple’s next-generation Foundation Models, running both on-device and through Private Cloud Compute.
Apple emphasized that when cloud processing is required, personal data is not stored or made accessible to Apple. The company also highlighted the use of on-device system orchestration, Spotlight indexing, and App Toolbox integrations that keep much of Siri’s intelligence operating locally on the user’s device. Apple continues to position privacy as a major differentiator from competing AI platforms.
More Powerful Speech and Dictation
Apple has significantly upgraded Siri’s voice capabilities, allowing users to customize the expressiveness and pace of Siri’s voice to create a more natural conversational experience.
Dictation has also received a major upgrade, automatically handling punctuation, capitalization, and formatting while improving speech recognition accuracy. Together, these improvements are designed to make interacting with Siri feel less like issuing commands to a machine and more like having a conversation.
A Dedicated Siri App
For the first time, Apple is giving Siri its own standalone application. The new Siri app stores conversation history and synchronizes it privately across devices using iCloud.
Users can start a conversation on a Mac and continue it later on an iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Vision Pro. This effectively transforms Siri from a temporary assistant into a persistent AI companion that remembers ongoing conversations and provides continuity across Apple’s ecosystem.
Visual Intelligence Expands Beyond the iPhone
Apple is significantly expanding Visual Intelligence across its product lineup. On iPhone, Siri can now see through the Camera app using a dedicated Siri mode.
Users can point their camera at objects, meals, bills, landmarks, or products and ask questions about what they are viewing. Siri can also perform actions such as splitting a restaurant bill through Apple Cash or providing nutritional information about food.
For the first time, Visual Intelligence is also coming to Mac, iPad, and Vision Pro, allowing users to ask questions about content on their screens, search visually, and interact with information directly through screenshots, keyboard shortcuts, or spatial computing experiences.
Writing Tools Powered by Siri AI
Apple is integrating AI-powered writing assistance throughout its platforms, allowing users to generate drafts from scratch, rewrite content, refine tone, improve clarity, and receive writing suggestions.
Siri can even adapt writing style based on the recipient. For example, emails to a manager may use a different tone than messages sent to close friends. The assistant also provides automatic proofreading across the system, including support for many third-party applications, making AI-assisted writing available virtually anywhere users type.
Apple’s Biggest AI Bet Yet
